Today i must say i am so exited about this day. Is it because valentine is at the corner? This day is going to be great.Don’t get me wrong i mean today not valentine’s day. The ecstasy has nothing to do with my mood today. I have decided to be happy that’s the (soul*) reason, you realize its all in the mind you command your day, you decide how it starts and ends. Remember as a man thinketh so he is.
Now back to the main business, people tend to be carried away with valentines day. It is not a day for the married, for the singles, for the heart broken, for those in relationships, those engaged nor for anyone who thinks he or she needs a mate. No and i still say no. Before you start your critics lets get a little bit info here.
Saint Valentine’s Day, also known as Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,is a holiday observed on February 14 each year. It is celebrated in many countries around the world, although it is not a holiday in most of them. St. Valentine’s Day began as a liturgical celebration one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. Several martyrdom stories were invented for the various Valentines that belonged to February 14, and added to later martyrologies. A popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell.Today, Saint Valentine’s Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion,as well as in the Lutheran Church. The Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrates Saint Valentine’s Day, albeit on July 6 and July 30, the former date in honor of the Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and the latter date in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna. In Brazil, the Dia de São Valentim is recognized on June 12. The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines“). In Europe, Saint Valentine’s Keys are given to lovers “as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart”, as well as to children, in order to ward off Saint Valentine’s Malady. Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid.
Enough of that, now lets get the facts. First it is not about romance alone. I believe valentine should be a day to show love, not to your lover or your fiancee. I believe it is time to show love to everybody. For me i would rather spend time with the destitute s than spend a lot of money on flowers alone. That’s me. God is love. He says if anyone loves the world then the love of the father is not in Him. Mathew 13:35 ”Everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” My mom taught me love. I do love you too for reading this.
I am almost 8 days old in this but i do not regret joining the club 20s…i mean people in the age bracket of(20-29). The saddest thing is not that valentine has come but how we are busy planning to spend it. Most of us with jobs are wishing to get a day off just not to miss out on this. Some are planning to go partying with their friends. Others plan to do things they have never done before in the name of valentine. Some are willing to compromise their Christianity, moral principles, and other religious principles because of valentine. No! i think valentine as a day should be treated with at most integrity…the purity of valentine should be maintained.
But a little advice from me wont hurt. This season try to make it different….visit a children’s home and share your love with them. Take the street boys for a treat..just buy them lunch, a drink or just make them realize there is love in this technologically burdened generation where people are lovers of themselves. Do not take yourself out..do not show love to yourself, at least make someone else feel loved. Take the orphans for a ride…show them love….love…love….love….Agape Agape… that is what i think about valentine’s day….its not an irrational truth…its an immeasurable truth…..
There you go enjoy your valentine’s
Yours with Love asiranelitoh!
